AN UNEMPLOYED labourer described as a "loveable rogue" had no reason to hang himself in the garage, an inquest was told.

The discovery of Kevin Bogdanovich, 31, by a neighbour came as a "complete surprise" to family and friends giving evidence.

Paramedics rushed him to Blackburn Royal Infirmary when the alarm was raised on May 24 at his home in Melita Street, Darwen. He was later pronounced dead by doctors.

Ian Holder, who found him, said: "The last thing I expected to see when I went to the garage was Kevin hanging. He was such a happy-go-lucky type of person." His mother was also unable to give an explanation for Kevin's actions.

She added: "He loved that garage and got no more depressed that anybody else.

"He had been upset by two family bereavements but always seemed to have a way of bouncing back."

East Lancashire coroner Andr Rebello heard that Mr Bogdanovich was unemployed at the time of his death but had led his family to believe he was working on the M65 extension.

He had booked a holiday to Spain but because the job did not exist he would have no means of paying for the trip.

But cash worries were discounted as a reason for the suicide by his girlfriend Kathleen Taylor.

She said: "He was a loveable rogue and he knew I would always forgive him whatever he did."

A note of a "private" nature and addressed to Ms Taylor was found and she confirmed it was written by her partner.

Recording a verdict that Mr Bogdanovich killed himself, Mr Rebello said: "Kevin was clearly a well loved, kind and caring and what he did was completely out of character. However, I am satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that he took his own life."
