OUT-of-favour Burnley star Steve Thompson today blasted suggestions that he wants away from Turf Moor.

And the midfield ace made it clear that he wants to fight for a first team return.

"All this talk about clear-the-air meetings make me come across as some sort of trouble maker," said Thompson.

"It's true I went to see the boss after I had been dropped at Gillingham.

"As club captain I felt I deserved an explanation.

"I wanted to find out what I had done wrong or was doing wrong so that I could put it right and try to regain my place in the first team. "It is as simple as that."

Since the Gillingham clash on September 7 Thompson has been out in the cold fuelling speculation about his future but he feels recent reports about his situation have blown things out of proportion. He said: "I have played over 600 league and cup games in my career.

"And I have been the captain at every club I have been at so there is nothing wrong with my attitude.

"I simply felt that I deserved an explanation.

"I'm only human.

"But I have never mentioned leaving Burnley.

"Now though there are all sorts of roumours flying about and I felt that I should put my side of the story."
