IN 'Tory and Labour united,' David Pearson (Letters, September 4) demonstrates who is the older and more worn-out member of the self-styled partnership he paints.

As for the miners' strike of 1984, I remember that my attitude was that mobs will not overthrow a legally-constituted government, no matter who leads the rebellion.

That is still my attitude - for whatever this excuse for a Conservative party and government may be, it is still an elected government which 'New Labour' will, by the people's choice and consent, replace in a few months' time.
