TYLDESLEY RU felt victory at Ambleside - keeping alive their 100 per cent league record - was only half the story.

The 36-20 triumph was seen as a poor show: forwards never took control of a game they should have dominated, backs squandered a succession of chances and the combined group gave away a bunch of needless penalties.

But, when it came to push and shove, Tyldesley did the business.

They opened with Lee Berrisford racing in for two tries followed by one each from Stephen Ashurst and Mark Swanton. Winger Fraser MacIntosh also added two more tries with skipper Dave Sivill converting three goals.

The Cumbrians landed five penalties and scored a last-minute try to make the score much closer than it should have been.

Tyldesley will have been happy with the full debut for young hooker Carl Greenhalgh, who did well.

But they know they will need a much-improved performance against early pacesetters Vickers of Barrow on Saturday at Well Street (3pm).

Tyldesley 2nds worked hard for very little reward at high-flying Sedgley Park.

Despite taking an early lead with a James O'Connor try, the home side defended well and took their only scoring opportunities to leave the Tyldesley boys on the wrong side of a 10-5 score.

On the plus side, Craig Shotton dominated the lineout and Reece Meakin, Pete McConnell and O'Connor were outstanding.

Tyldesley 3rds made light work of Sedgley Park in a 28-7 victory.

Skipper Steve Culshaw and back rower Pete Hully worked hard with young Dave Goulbourne the star of the show.

Tyldesley are looking for players aged 6-16. Training is on Wednesdays (6.30pm) and Sundays (11am). Contact Keith McGowan on 01942-793863 for details.
