A MOTHER-OF-TWO died under the wheels of a delivery truck just moments after finishing work.

Christine Morris, 34, had just walked out of the Envopak Industrials factory in Burnley yesterday when she was crushed under the rear wheels of the truck which was reversing in the firm's yard.

Her distraught husband, David, who also works at the factory, was one of the first people on the scene.

Mrs Morris was a sewing machinist at the Farrington Road Industrial Estate firm, which makes money bags for banks and building societies, and had worked at the factory for eight years.

Today Mr Morris, a charge hand at the factory, said: "We usually finish at lunchtime on a Friday. She usually goes for the car and then waits for me.

"She must have been on her way to the car when it happened. I came out of the building and she was there under the wheels of the lorry." The Scania truck belonging to Securicor Omega Express delivery service was manoeuvring in the factory yard at the time. The driver, Ken Davies, of Hapton, was left shocked but uninjured.

The couple, of Leamington Avenue, Burnley, have two children, Samantha, 14, and 12-year-old Carl.

Mr Morris said his wife, a former pupil at St Hilda's RC Girls High School, Burnley, was "a home bird who kept herself to herself."

Sergeant Mick Whittaker, of Burnley police, said: "It was an unfortunate accident. She came into collision with this vehicle somehow or other and received injuries from which she died.

"We're not exactly sure of the circumstances yet. There were a number of witnesses to the incident which we have still to talk to. They were not in a fit state to be questioned at the time. They were very upset.

"It will probably be several days before we can give the full details to the coroner. We're not treating it as a road accident. We treating it more as an industrial accident and the Health and Safety Executive have been informed as a matter of course."
