BURNLEY will not pursue their interest in Italian trialists Roberto Vezzosi and Andrei Capecchi.

The Italy youth internationals returned home last night and I understand the Clarets will not extend their Turf Moor trial.

The pair played together in Wednesday's Pontins League fixture at Carlisle United and the private friendly against Blackburn Rovers a week earlier.

But manager Adrian Heath confirmed: "We will not be taking it any further."

Meanwhile, Steve Thompson will see a consultant next week to discover the extent of his Division Two injury lay-off.

The Clarets midfield ace faces another frustrating stint on the sidelines after keyhole surgery on his knee 10 days ago. Physio Andy Jones confirmed: "Steve will see the consultant and then we should have an idea how long it will be before he can get back into action. "But I would already think that it will be around three to four weeks before he will be fit enough.

"The surgeon tidied his knee up when Steve had the surgery. We will just have to wait for his report now."

Thompson's career at Turf Moor has been blighted by injury and he was nearly a year out of the game following major Achilles Tendon surgery.

Thompson began the season as club skipper but was subsequently axed from the Clarets starting line-up at Gillingham.

He has not featured since, following the unfortunate training injury.

Burnley hope to have Damian Matthew and Gerry Harrison fit in time for the Lancashire derby against Bury at Gigg Lane on Tuesday.

Both players were expected to be ruled out of today's Division Two home clash against Bristol City with leg injuries.
