CONTRACT talks with Marlon Beresford have hit a fresh obstacle today.

Discussions with Burnley's number one goalkeeper have remained deadlocked for several weeks now but Beresford revealed: "I went in to meet the manager with the full intention of signing a new two-year deal.

"I thought it was a good offer. When I got there, though, the original offer had been withdrawn and the offer no longer stood.

"It seemed there had been a misunderstanding over the figures.

"I found that unacceptable. I feel a bit disappointed and a little let down.

"I've stayed loyal to Burnley and I want to stay here for another two years. My intentions are very clear.

"I want to stay and play for Burnley Football Club. I'm just a bit disappointed about this whole affair."

But manager Adrian Heath explained: "We've had that many figures flying about between Marlon and myself that I think he's got his wires crossed. "The fact of the matter is that there is still a very good and fair offer on the table and obviously we want him to sign. I can understand that he wants the best possible deal for himself but we can only go so far. We've gone as far as we can go money-wise with the offer to Marlon."

Heath added: "We are not a million miles away from agreeing a deal and I still hope we can come to an agreement over a two-year contract."

Meanwhile, Dutch triallist Mel Schoenmaker made an unexpected Clarets debut in last night's 5-3 Pontins League victory over Mansfield Town at Turf Moor.

Schoenmaker, who arrived on trial from First Division club Heerenveen on Monday, played the whole game.

Now Burnley are considering extending his loan for up to a month.

Heath added: "We didn't intend to play him but we got last-minute clearance from the Dutch FA.

"That was a real bonus because we were able to field him in a match situation." A strong Clarets second string line-up featured a number of senior first team squad faces including Chris Brass, Jamie Hoyland, Peter Swan and Andy Cooke. Cooke struck twice for the Clarets with Ian Helliwell and Colin Carr-Lawton also on the mark.

First year apprentice Chris McDonald was recovering in hospital today after breaking a leg in training.

"Everybody at the club wishes Chris all the best for a speedy recovery," said coach Terry Pashley.
