FIVE-star striker Paul Barnes opened his Burnley account in style - and now his manager hopes he can keep up the good work.

Adrian Heath broke the club's record transfer fee to bring Barnes to Turf Moor. It took the ex-Birmingham forward nine games to find the net for his new team, but it was worth the wait as he scored all the goals in a stunning 5-2 home victory over Stockport.

Barnes joined four other Clarets who have scored five in league or cup game. A repeat performance at bottom-of-the-table Rotherham on Saturday (October 12) is unlikely, but when a striker has found the scoring habit, it takes a lot to stop him.

Heath was full of praise for the man for whom he paid £375,000. "To score five goals in any standard of football is a remarkable achievement," he said.

"You need luck in football, and everything came right for him. I'm pleased he did it here in front of our fans. The one thing I have always said since he came here is that he will score goals. The rest of the players were delighted for him. He is a popular player. He deserved a standing ovation for his good finishing."

Looking forward to Saturday and the rest of the season, the manager said: "I'd like to think that we can play like we did against Stockport all the time. That's what we have got to aim for.

"We are a good team when we play with a lot of passion and commitment. We have to get ourselves in a position like the one Stockport were in, when they went six games without defeat."

Burnley go to Watford on Tuesday night (October 15).
