NOW you see him, now you don't.

Scotland coach Craig Brown was an early arrival at Ewood for the Arsenal game last Saturday.

But, on discovering that none of his trio of international players - Colin Hendry, Kevin Gallacher and Billy McKinlay - were on duty, promptly nipped over the moors to Burnden Park.

And Brown was rewarded for his diversion by a two-goal performance from another hot Scot, Bolton striker John McGinlay, who took the opportunity to stake his claim as the World Cup qualifying campaign gathers pace.

One man who did stay at Ewood, however, was England coach Glenn Hoddle.

He would have been pleased by the form of his number one keeper David Seaman, as well as challenger Tim Flowers and Arsenal defender Tony Adams, battling back from injury problems. But, after a superb display of finishing, what price Ian Wright reviving his international career?

EX-ROVERS in top form this week included the obvious such as Alan Shearer for Newcastle and David May for Manchester United.

And the not-so-obvious such as Peter Thorne, who hit a hat-trick for Swindon in their 6-0 drubbing - the biggest win in the Nationwide League so far this season - of injury-hit Huddersfield.

Among half a dozen absentees for Huddersfield...former Ewood trio Andy Morrison, Lee Makel and Wayne Burnett.

With Frank Talia in goal for Swindon, it could have been quite a re-union at the County Ground.
