YOUR editorial "A high price for plodding police probe" (LET, February 25) criticised this Authority for the time that its investigation was taking into alleged misconduct at a detective's birthday party in a bar at Lancashire police headquarters.
At the start of any investigation, it is impossible to forecast how long it will take to complete. In 1992, the Authority agreed to a target of four months for such investigations.
We aim to complete investigations as efficiently and effectively as possible, but we will never sacrifice thoroughness for speed.
You may also wish to note that investigating officers hold at least the rank of Chief Inspector.
