CARNFORTH emerged victors in a topsy-turvy game (Saturday March 8) against visitors Silloth.

The home team started the stronger with persistent forward pressure enabling scrum-half Jones to score a try.

From the restart creative back play won Carnforth a penalty which Holden converted to give them an 8 point lead. Silloth finally began to show form with slick handling from their backs winning a penalty in front of the posts.

Taking Carnforth by surprise, the visitors elected to run the ball and scored a try. A penalty from a ruck shortly afterwards allowed Silloth to take the lead for the first time.

In the final minutes of the half Carnforth restored their lead when Parkinson fielded a misjudged clearance and set up a maul, allowing Jones to score his second try.

The visitors scored an early penalty in the second half and for the next 30 minutes dominated the match. Resilient defensive play by Carnforth only allowed Silloth to convert a single penalty to give them a one point lead. With the game almost over Silloth were judged offside deep in their own half. It was left to the reliable Holden to convert the penalty and win the game.
