PRESTON Labour MP Audrey Wise has revealed some Preston residents are paying more council tax than millionaires living in mansions in Mayfair.
She says Government grants to Westminster Council mean thousands of residents who live in houses worth at least £320,000 pay under £600 each.
In Preston, however, more than a third of all households pay more than that.
Audrey Wise said: "If Preston Council got the same help from the Government as Tory Westminster, they wouldn't have to levy any Council Tax at all next year.
"They would actually pay out a rebate to every Council Tax payer of £550!
"There is something radically wrong with a system which is ridiculously generous to Mayfair millionaires in mansions yet puts the squeeze on a place like Preston."
