EAST Lancashire man Shahid Malik is celebrating double success after taking up two important new posts.

He has been appointed head of policy development for the East Midlands-based Greater Nottingham Training and Enterprise Council.

And he has also got a job as non-executive director on the board of the Urban Forum, a national regeneration body in London.

The double success makes the 29-year-old Burnley councillor's son one of the youngest people in the country in either of the roles.

The GNTEC is a £20 million-a-year company which aims to re-skill the unemployed, improve workskills and encourage enterprise in Greater Nottingham. London-based Urban Forum promotes excellence in regeneration and partnerships and has a major input in the national regeneration policy, advising government and civil servants in the Commons.

Mr Malik is the of son of Coun Rafique Malik, director of Blackburn Racial Equality Council and Burnley Council housing chairman.

Mr Malik previously worked in Sheffield, putting together a £300 million regeneration programme.

He was also the country's youngest chairman of the board of directors of a regional funding company, and youngest independent university governor.
