RAIDERS threatened to shoot a security guard before fleeing with tens of thousands of pounds in a daylight robbery.

Securicor is now offering £5,000 for information leading to the conviction of the three attackers.

The Securicor guard was leaving the Main Street nightclub by a side-entrance, having just collected takings on Monday afternoon (April 28), when he was tackled from behind in an alley by a man who said he had a gun.

He was forced to the ground then ordered to drop the cashbox and not look up.

Two other men, believed to have been waiting in Springfield Road at the back of the club, then ran up and took the cash. The guard, bruised and shocked, saw the three men flee and another witness saw them drive off in a blue Ford Sierra, registration number D442 YMY, which was found abandoned 30 minutes later in an alley off Handsworth Road, near Sherborne Road, North Shore.

Police want to talk to witnesses and in particular a young woman in a white crash helmet and black leather biker's jacket with brown hair, about 5ft 5ins tall.

All three men were white, the first aged 29 to 32, 6ft plus and of athletic build, with black hair, dark stubble, dark bushy eyebrows, wearing a black baseball cap with a white flash and a waist-length black jacket.

The second was fat with a beer-belly, aged about 35, 5ft 8ins to 5ft 9ins, with reddish-blond hair and a local accent. He was wearing an orange and black wool hat, blue jeans, and a light tan waist-length leather jacket with a strap and buckle on the neck. There is no description of the third.
