Bamber Bridge 6 Guiseley 4 WHAT a week it's been for Bamber Bridge. Just as Brig's place in the Premier Division was finally secured with Hyde United's defeat of Buxton in midweek, Irongate was stunned by the resignation of manager David May.

May, who took the helm in November with Brig looking favourites for relegation, said he found it impossible to give the club as much time as the position demanded while running his own business. The club moved quickly to name Great Harwood manager Martin Eatough as the new man in charge.

Brig took the field againsy Guiseley on Saturday (April 26) like a team without care in the world. And this relaxed, end-of-term spirit infested the defence early on - conceding 2 early goals, and resulting in the replacement of 'keeper Barton with outfield utility man Ian Vickers.

But the Brig attack turned the game around with a stupendous performance. Mark Brennan kept the home side in the match with his 24th minute strike, and despite falling further behind soon after half-time Brig were back on terms within the hour, thanks to goals from Neil Spencer and Wayne Maddock. Ashley Hoskin put Bamber Bridge ahead in the 65th minute with a marvellous solo run, and later set-up Brig's 5th when Grant Leitch netted the rebound from Hoskin's shot. Steve O'Neill completed Brig's incredible afternoon, claiming the 6th 4 minutes from time. And although Guiseley put the score into double figures on the stroke of full-time, after a week and a season like Brig have had no one at Irongate was complaining.
