TATTOOISTS from all over Britain converge on Rawtenstall for the first ever tattoo convention at the Astoria on May 18.

The event will raise money for the Phoenix Foundation, set up last year to help charities.

Tattooists and body piercers will demonstrate their art as well show off their best tattoos in a competition.

Proceeds will benefit the Macmillan Nurses, Hospice for Rossendale Appeal and the Campaign for the Restoration of Older People's Services.

Local band Black Fiend will cover Black Sabbath numbers and play other heavy metal anthems.

Susan Troughton, of the Pheonix Foundation, said: "The show will be family orientated and will include tattooing, body piercing, trade stands and face painting.

"It should be an interesting and unusual day and a unique event for Rawtenstall."
