CHRIS Waddle today told Burnley-if you want me make me an offer!

But I understand the club are going for someone with more experience and are expected to reveal their target soon.

Ray Wilkins, Jack Charlton, Wrexham's Brian Flynn and Terry Yorath are all in the frame as the club look for someone with a fine pedigree in the game.

Waddle, though, would welcome the chance to ply his trade at Burnley.

Speaking exclusively to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, the former England star said he was very interested in the Turf Moor hot-seat. "I would definitely be interested in managing a club like Burnley," said Waddle.

"There is so much potential there and the support they get is tremendous.

"They have a terrific stadium there and the set-up is superb.

"They say Burnley is a sleeping giant and I think that's correct.

"Realistically the club should really be in Division One."

Waddle said he had so far had no contact with Turf Moor officials but would listen to any approach.

"There has been a lot written about me and various jobs in the newspapers

"But paper talk is cheap. "I have been linked with almost every vacancy going. The likes of Burnley, Hull and Sheffield United which is very flattering but I have not spoken to anyone at Burnley at this stage."

The 36-year-old was released by Sunderland at the end of the season and admitted he is keen on going into management.

He turned down the chance to manage West Brom last season but said he would be prepared to manage in Division Two.

"You have to go with your gut feeling and my instincts told me West Brom wasn't the right club for me.

"But I would consider managing at Burnley's level.

"Some say you should start there and learn the game.

"Other people say that you should start at the top.

"But you can only really consider the options that come your way."

Burnley are keen on making a swift appointment to replaced the departed Adrian Heath with the new season looming.

And they are believed to be well down the road to finding their new man.

One source said that their target was a man of fine pedigree within the game who has experience at international level both playing and coaching. Fans' choice Joe Royle looks to be out of the picture because of a compensation dispute at his old club Everton.

The Turf Moor board remained tight-lipped about the vacant manager's position with chairman Frank Teasdlae unavailable for comment.

Burnley secretary John Haworth said that there was nothing imminent.
