ARCHITECT drawings have revealed how Blackburn's run down Pavilions could be transformed into exciting retail outlets.

As part of on on-going drive to find a buyer for the listed buildings, Manchester-based property agents Grimley, and architects Campbell Driver Partnership of Blackburn, have produced the most comprehensive plans so far.

The proposed application includes refurbishing the three listed buildings and enhancing their appeal by introducing two storey infill development which will link the existing buildings.

New plans for the Church Street buildings are modern and complement the existing structures using full height glazed panels, stone piers and cornices.

Jonathan Wilkinson, development partner at Grimley, said: "The scheme creates 800 square metres of floor space and will be marketed either as a whole or may be broken down into smaller units depending on the enquiries we receive. Particular attention has been given to the rear elevation of the scheme where the buildings look out over Blackburn Cathedral grounds. The scheme will assist with opening up this part of the town both visually and functionally."

Councillor Andy Kay, chairman of Blackburn with Darwen Council's regeneration committee, said: "We are still assessing the scheme. A developer has yet to come forward with a comprehensive deal to say that the scheme is viable and they want to redevelop the buildings.

"If planning consent is granted then further marketing will take place to find a developer who might be able to implement the scheme. If a developer is not found, then we will have to look again at our options."
