FORMER Preston North End star Greg Challender is Tony Greenwood's latest recruit at Accrington Stanley.

And the Crown Ground boss declared there are more on the way as he strengthens his squad ahead of the UniBond Premier League campaign.

"I have a few other irons in the fire and I hope to be bringing in more players in the coming weeks," said Greenwood.

Challender, primarily a midfield man but a utility player, was signed as a centre half for Preston North End from Mossley by John Beck.

From Deepdale, he moved to Southport before leaving for Altrincham.

An aggressive player, Greenwood believes he is a big addition to the Stanley squad.

"It's a very good signing," added Greenwood. "Like Jim McCluskey, whom we signed last week, it's another free.

"We're slowly building up and I think the squad is coming together."

Greenwood has also sold Paul Robertson to Barrow for a four-figure sum.

Great Harwood must wait for a week to hear back from the FA after facing disciplinary charges at Manchester's Piccadilly Hotel.

The club had one of the worst track records in English football last season - worse even than Arsenal and Middlesbrough.

Chairman Bill Holden is hopeful that there will be leniency.

"Many of the bookings were for innocuous incidents," said Mr Holden. "Also, many of the new rules seemed to work against us."

Harwood are expected to be slapped with a suspended fine and a warning about their level of discipline next season.
