ALAN WHALLEY'S WORLD

CALLING that old Cowley leavers class of 1948!

David Johnson, an old boy of the famous St Helens seat of learning during its grammar school days, is keen to gather together what remains of the old clan.

The idea is to stage a 50th anniversary bash in St Helens next July. David (65) now of Coniston Avenue, Penketh, explains: "I believe there are still about 29 survivors from our School Certificate gang." And he knows of two staff members still living, with prospects of at least one other blackboard survivor from that era.

But where, David wonders, are the likes of old school chums such as Joe Rotherham, Roy H. Thorpe, Tom Lloyd, Leslie Brown and the rest?

David, formerly of Kiln Lane, St Helens, is working in tandem with Gerry Murray of Rainhill in organising the celebration 'do'. And he'd welcome any phone calls from his classmates or ex-staff on (01925) 72682.
