STEVE CAMERON is the new boss at Manchester League Division One outfit Pennington FC.

He follows hot on the heels of Mattie Waldrop, who sensationally quit to move to Daisy Hill.

One time Walkers AFC boss Cameron was reserve team manager at Atherton Colls last season.

Pre-season training has already started, and players keen to join can contact Cameron on 01942-408527.

The club is also looking to recruit quality players for the U17s side and newly-formed U15s. Call Brian Smith on 01942-516767.

AN annual pre-season football treat has been scrapped.

The popular Atherton LR v Bolton Wanderers Friday night match-up will not take place this year.

The game had become a massive talking point over the last four consecutive seasons with some 3,000 at last year's encounter.

LR have, meanwhile, lined-up visits to Crilly Park for Wigan Athletic (July 24) and Bury (July 28) while there is a top class, much-prestige-at-stake home meeting with Leigh RMI on July 31.

Tonight LR are at Old Rivingtonians while August sees home games against Garswood United (2), Thackley (9) and Manchester United Youth (12), the last match being a provisional date.

RMI are at home to a Manchester City X1 tonight, then it's Blackpool (22, H), Colne Dynamos (26, A) before the LR clash.

August dates - 2: Clitheroe (A), 9: Solihull (H), 12: Southport Reserves (H), 16: Netherfield (A).

THE BSF Over 35s Veterans League welcomes a new team this season in Bryn OB (Golborne) who will play on Ashton Town's pitch.

Peter NichoIson's Wanderers AFC Vets suffered last season from not having a permanent home base.

But this term they will stage home games at Atherton LR's Crilly Park.
