A PLUMBER suffered burns to his arms after a gas cylinder caught light following an accident with a blowtorch.

Andrew Pettinger, of Whalley, was working in the bathroom of a house in St Hubert's Road, Great Harwood, when the accident happened.

His cylinder overturned, knocking the top off and allowing the gas to escape and be ignited by the blowtorch.

Sub-officer James McKay, of Great Harwood fire station, said: "The man suffered burns to his arms and singed his hair. There was no danger of the cylinder blowing up."

The side of the bath was melted by the heat and the house was smoke logged.

Mr Pettinger was treated at Blackburn Royal Infirmary and allowed home.
