THERE were PBs galore as Tyldesley SC featured in the first of the Warburton Galas at Broughton.

And they were headed by 16-year-old Simon Clare as he took gold and a PB in the 50 butterfly, following up with a silver in the 100 freestyle.

Sarah Wood stormed in with gold and a PB in the 10-Year 50 backstroke. And Kate Ward completed the hat-trick of golds with victory in the 13-Year 100 butterfly.

Stuart Carlisle, 13, made it double silver in the 100 butterfly and 50 backstroke with Samantha Thompson (10-Year 50 backstroke) and Khalid Jhugroo (12-Year 100 freestyle) also collecting silver.

Bronze went to James Gendall (12-Year 100 freestyle) and Dominic Derbyshire (14-Year 100 breaststroke); Dominic also hit fifth in the 50 freestyle.

Other finalists were Andrew Hurst (4th in 14-Year 50 freestyle), Maria Hampson (4th in 11-Year 200 IM), Michelle Greensmith (5th in 10-Year 50 backstroke), David Gendall (5th in a PB time in 50 backstroke) and Stephanie Thompson (5th in 50 breaststroke, also in a PB).

Kelly Banner was first reserve in the 50 breaststroke (PB). Mark Hurst also hit a PB in the 200 IM while Samantha Greensmith and Christopher Tickle both had good swims.

The Tyldesley pool filled to capacity for the Ernest Chadwick Invitation Gala, Wigan winning 42-32.

The gala also featured the Cope Shield with primary schools in intense competition.

The teams were St George's Tyldesley, Holy Family Boothstown, St Anne's Hindsford, Boothstown Methodist and Garrett Hall of Tyldesley (Yvette Heaton, Bethan Jackson, David Partington and Khalid Jhugroo) who won for the fifth straight year.

Floral presentations were made to special guests for the evening, Mrs J Chadwick, Mrs J Cope and Tyldesley president Mrs M Bent by some of the younger members of the Tyldesley team, Michelle Greensmith, Samantha Thompson and Sarah Greenwood.

In the Central Lancashire Knockout semi-final Tyldesley beat Trafford 45-38; they now face Urmston.
