RAINFORD were involved in a home double header last weekend, both games resulting in draws, but markedly different in content.

On Saturday a magnificent 124 from Paul Calland supported by Mike Cook (45) and a whirlwind 33 n.o. for Justin Dallas helped Rainford post a mammoth 264 for 5 against Winstanley Park.

Calland's innings was a joy to watch and the Loughborough University man is right back to his best.

Winstanley Park were never interested in the Rainford's target and their innings closed on 146 for 3 with the Rainford men taking the lions share of the points.

On Sunday Fleetwood Hesketh won the toss and elected to bat on a square which is a tribute to the hard working ground staff at Jubilee Recreation Ground. Neil Rimmer took full advantage with a chanceless 119 and the Southport outfit declared on 235 for 3.

A varied attack of real pace and spin had the home side struggling and only Matt Campbell (50 not out) had any sort of answer.

Campbell batted through the innings and with just two wickets left and 10 overs to go was joined at the wicket by John Williams.

The pair grittily defied the Fleetwood Hesketh attack to earn a hard fought draw at 146 for 8.

Both games were sponsored by Carborundum Ltd.

On Saturday the second XI, fresh from success in last weeks Potteries Cup semi-final set about Aughton in workmanlike fashion.

The ever reliable Keith Haskayne bowled 25 overs taking 7 for 36 and Aughton were all out before tea for 84.

On a tricky sort of wicket Mark Murdock and John Williams ground out half the total and the middle order saw the Rainford team home by four wickets.
