BURY BOSS Stan Ternent is not ready to give up his search for new recruits.

He wants one more signing before the pre-season whirl gets under way. Only the Shakers' lack of financial muscle has prevented more fresh faces but Ternent is known for his persuasive powers in the wheeling and dealing department and expects to land his man shortly.

Just who that 'man' is remains a mystery but Burnley's Peter Swan - and possibly Andy Cook - remain firmly in the manager's thoughts and it would be no surprise if Ternent and his fellow north-easterner Chris Waddle, the Clarets' manager, struck a deal.

Despite constant denials from both clubs, rumours linking £1.5 million-rated Chris Lucketti with a big money move to Bolton Wanderers continue to grow in volume. Selling Lucketti would certainly ease the monetary pressures on the Shakers.

Lucketti will, however, travel to Exeter this morning as the Shakers prepare for a busy pre-season schedule.

They meet Bridport tomorrow (3pm) and then go on to face Taunton (Wednesday, 7.30pm and Yeovil (Thursday, 7.45pm).

Gordon Armstrong who is recovering from a minor back operation and Adrian Randall (thigh) are unlikely to play any part in the games leaving Ternent a squad of just sixteen, including two goalkeepers. Armstrong and Randall will travel but striker Rob Matthews will be left behind to continue his recovery from a knee operation that will sideline him until around Christmas time.

"Things have been going well in training," reckoned the manager. "Players these days keep themselves fit in the closed season. They have all come back raring to go and all we need now are a few games to get us match fit."

David Pugh remains club skipper for the coming season and he has been impressing his manager.

"Having him back to full fitness will be like having a new player in the side," he said. "Pughie has worked ever so hard to get back his fitness after the double arm break and it's great to see him 'flying' again."

Meanwhile new signing Andy Gray (pictured) has been training with the squad over the past week.

Former England international Gray said hello to Gigg lane, and hello again to manager Ternent, whom he worked with at Crystal Palace, last week.
