BOWLER Jon Richardson swept to the fore on Preston's glory day.

They won their first match of the season, beating Kendal at Shap Road by 13 runs in a pulsating finish.

And Richardson's attack ensured the points as he snapped up 4-34 in nine overs.

He was ably supported by Roger Kaye (3-31) and Atul Sachdeva, who chipped in with 2-22.

Earlier, Preston had struggled with the bat before putting down a target of 148-8, hitting back after losing opener Anthony Mann with the score on five.

Jon Fleetwood added 16 and 16-year-old Atul Sachdeva went for five.

Nick Holt and Graham Standring took the score to 50, and when Holt went for 21 half the side had gone with just 76 on the board.

Lee Kearsley 27 and Paul Paynter 12 added 26 runs for the sixth wicket, then Paul Paynter fell for 12.

But the tail wagged when wicketkeeper Paul Mann (not out 17) and opening bowler Roger Kaye 19 added 41 in an unbroken partnership.

Preston made a dream start when Manoh Parekh had Kendal's Australian pro Corrie Richards caught by Standring for four. And they kept up the pressure to dismiss them for 135.

Leyland recorded their first home win of the season, beating Blackpool by two wickets - a better show than last season when they lost every home match!

Blackpool managed to hit 100 with Steven Pallett taking a superb 7-52 from 23 consecutive overs.

Leyland made a disastrous start when Chris Sim fell without scoring.

But skipper Paul Tebay, who made 44, and Craig Gardner laid the foundation for victory with a 54-run partnership for the second wicket.

Half the Leyland side had been dismissed for 66 and they looked in big trouble with seven down and just 71 on the board.

And unbeaten 24 from MoM Pallett, carrying on from his earlier bowling feats, took Leyland through to victory.

Leyland Daf had to be content with a winning draw against champions St Annes.

Daf dug in for a brilliant 209-5 with Stuart Catterall - with a magnificent 123 - and Antony Moore 31 combining for a 105-run partrnership.

That Catterall knock was the second highest score by a Leyland Daf player in the Vaux Northern League.

The highest was made last season by deputy professional Dexter Fitton, who made an undefeated 139.

It was Catterall's maiden century and his hundred came in 154 minutes and included three sixes and 17 fours.

St Anne's hung on for a draw at 168-8.
