AT the time of the St Helens Star going to press, Saints star Bobbie Goulding and his wife Paula were anxiously waiting at the bedside of their baby daughter Ellie.
On Tuesday, at just one week old, little Ellie underwent a massive operation to correct a heart condition with which she was born.
Latest statement issued by Alder Hey Hospital, said: "Ellie is critically ill and on a life support machine. Her parents are staying at the hospital and it is a worrying time for them both."
