A DIRECTOR of Morecambe's famous ice-cream company, B Lewis and Sons, has been disqualified from being a company director for four years. Paul Francis Rastelli Lewis, of Ashtree Grove, Bolton-le-Sands, admitted 'unfit conduct' at the High Court in Manchester. The court heard how the family business, which made ice-cream in the resort for 22 years, went into voluntary liquidation in August 1994 with debts of £431,698.

The Disqualification Order prevents Mr Lewis from being a director of a company or in any way, directly or indirectly, taking part in the promotion, formation or management of a company for four years.

At the hearing Mr Lewis admitted causing the company to continue trading insolvently from June 1993, even though he knew he was trading to the detriment of creditors.

He also repaid a £32,076 loan to B & M Lewis and B Lewis Foods Ltd in preference to other creditors in the company's final seven months of trading.

The hearing also heard that he operated a deliberate non-payment policy to Government departments and, at liquidation, the company owed £34,973 to the Inland Revenue and £42,290 to Customs and Excise.

A Morecambe man has been disqualified from acting as a company director for eight years after his double glazing company took money for goods it failed to deliver. Peter Cobley of Portland Drive, was a director of Premierglaze in Preston, which went into voluntary liquidation in 1995, owing £40,185. The Blackburn County Court heard how Premierglaze took deposits and payments for goods even though they knew there was very little chance of customers being supplied.
