BACUP Borough manager Brent Peters has signed former Manchester City striker Paul Moulden in a bid to add more firepower up front to the NWCFL outfit.

"This has got to be one of the biggest coups for Borough in recent times," said Peters, after landing 30-year-old Farnworth-born Moulden, now a Bolton businessman.

Prolific goalscorer Moulden's achievements saw him once enter the Guinness Book of Records after netting an amazing 280 goals in a single season when playing for Bolton Lads club.

"I am absolutely delighted that I have attracted him to Bacup, as players like him can smell the scent of goals," said Peters.

Moulden also played league football with Bournemouth, Oldham Athletic and latterly Rochdale, before making fleeting appearances for Accrington Stanley early in the 1996/97 season, when Peters was with the Crown Ground club.

Bacup have enjoyed something of a revival in fortunes since Peters took the helm recently, but much of the success has come from tightening up a defence that had been leaking goals.

"Paul may need sharpening up a bit, but you can't keep relying on your defenders to pull you out," added Peters, who expects former England Youth international Moulden to make his Borough debut in their Division Two away game at Daisy Hill on December 27.
