A FAITHFUL dog saved his master and foiled two robbers at Heysham Village Post office on Tuesday.

Toby the dog kept the two assailants, who were wearing theatrical masks, at bay when they tried to attack Brian Kirkham, the sub post-master as he started to close up on Tuesday.

"Toby's a cross-alsation. He was very cross on Tuesday. He kept one of them in particular off me,'' said Brian. The men entered the post office just before 5pm and tried to force Brian to hand over the cash before Toby intervened and the sub post-master escaped behind his protective screen.

The two men then ran off to a dark-coloured car, possibly a Vauxhall or Cavalier, on Barrows Lane. Another man, already in the car, then drove them off towards Heysham harbour.

Both offenders were described as 18 to 30-years-old. One was 5ft10ins tall with a thin build and was wearing a tracksuit top. The other was wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt.
