Your edition dated Jan 1 enabled me to compare the prison sentence of three years awarded to Stephen Booth for editing a 'radical' magazine with that of only six months awarded to Gavin Cameron for actual bodily harm.

Admittedly in the latter story there were sentences of as much as two and a half years awarded for grievous bodily harm but even this has no bearing on the two completely different offences involved.

Is there no justice in our courts today? Does it just depend on the whim of the magistrate and the histrionics of the defending council? Or can we rely on common sense having some bearing on the sentences provided. I wonder!

Also, excellent to see your pressure being maintained on the council leaders over Mr Blobby fiasco. This will not go away just because they want it to. It is, after all, the ratepayers' money they have wasted.

Gordon Arkwright,

Sorry for the amount of news space we had during the holiday period but this was beyond our control. Thanks for your letter which is typical of many letters and calls we have had at the office expressing deep concern over Mr Booth's sentence - Ed
