A NEW trade association for the textile industry in Lancashire has been launched.

The Blackburn District Textile Manufacturers' Association and the North East Lancashire Textile Manufacturers' Association have combined to form the Lancashire Textile Manufacturers' Association. The new group represents more than 60 companies in an area stretching from Whitehaven down to Rossendale, the Ribble Valley and Pendle.

Most of its member companies produce woven fabrics but it also represents those involved in carpet manufacturing, spinning, dyeing and finishing. The association, based at St Andrew's Street, Blackburn, provides advice and information to help members on areas including employment, health and safety and training.

The chairman of the new association is Stephen Thornber, of James Thornber Ltd., and association vice- chairman is Peter Brierley, chairman of James Dewhurst Ltd.
