GRASSHOPPERS 20 NUNEATON 10 (January 3)

WITH a 17-point lead at the interval, Hoppers looked to have Saturday's fixture well under control.

Nuneaton had other ideas - and despite losing hooker Owen with an ankle injury fought back and kept the outcome in doubt until late.

A seventh minute opportunist try by John Bleasdale was converted by Rob Smith.

Hoppers put together a rare handling movement with Rob Smith racing 40 metres to touch down.

Hoppers were rewarded when Mike Bailey was driven over following a line-out.

Midway in the second the Midlands side were back in contention after forwards Mitchell and Court crossed for unconverted tries.

A Rob Smith penalty ten minutes from time restored their confidence. With five wins from the last six games Hoppers have climbed to fifth position in the league.

On Saturday (January 10), Hoppers travel to Hinckley for a return league fixture.
