TOP marks have been awarded to staff at Blackburn Tourist Information Centre.

A visitor from the English Tourist Board posed as a tourist at the centre in King George's Hall in Northgate and awarded the staff 91 per cent for their efforts.

Staff were unaware that the visit had taken place, as the undercover official was so convincing as a tourist. Points were awarded for the advice given, the helpful attitude of the staff and the way the centre was sign-posted.

Tony Openshaw, tourism development manager for Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: "The results of the survey are very encouraging and to be awarded 91 per cent is a tremendous achievement. The staff even managed to better last year's high score."
