MP JANET Anderson could follow in the footsteps of local chef Dave Smith - of Hotel TV fame - by starring in a fly-on-the-wall documentary!

If plans being discussed by the Commons Administration Committee are given the go-ahead, a camera crew could soon be given access to all areas in a bid to quash the myth that MPs have an easy job. Despite fears among MPs that the series could become a stitch-up, Darwen MP Janet believes the programme is a wonderful idea.

She said: "We need to explain to people what goes on down here in parliament because there are a lot of false rumours which need stamping out.

"This series would have access to all the committee meetings and other activities which go on around the building.

"It will show that even though we aren't in the chamber, we are still working very hard for our constituents."

The programme would have extra significance for government whips, such as Janet and Hyndburn MP Greg Pope, who are kept busy behind the scenes keeping Labour's MPs in check.

Janet added: "As a whip, I tend not to speak in the chamber but go direct to the ministers. Hopefully, this programme will show the work of people such as myself, showing I work just as hard for my constituency, even if I don't do it in public."

But Dave Smith, the colourful chef who starred in the fly-on-the-wall documentary Hotel, based at the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool, had a word of caution or two.

Dave, who lives in Darwen, said: "I feel I was quite gullible in that I was obviously picked out as a comedian and a lot of detail about the more professional side of the kitchen was omitted. Hopefully, it won't happen again."
