SPICE fever has helped bring a very busy New Year for staff at the Warner Village cinema at Pilsworth.

Spiceworld, the Spice Girls movie, has proved a major attraction, but by no means the only one at the 12-screen multiplex, which has seen 60,000 paying customers through the doors since Boxing Day.

"A lot of our films have been selling out," said a Warner Village spokesman. "It's not just Spiceworld. Even The Full Monty has been selling out."

The Full Monty was released nearly four months ago, and went on to become the most successful British picture ever, with £40 million of box office receipts - and counting!

Other top draws during the busy festive season have been the 18th Bond film, Tomorrow Never Dies, The Borrowers and Starship Troopers.

Some 17,970 people went in to see films during the Boxing Day weekend, and a further 42,000 the week after that. On Tuesday, December 30 alone 9,500 cinema-goers caught a movie at the 4,000-seat multiplex.

Said the spokesman: "It was busy on Boxing Day weekend, but New Year weekend was even busier."
