CHRIS Waddle is pinning his faith in new signing Andy Payton to get the goals Burnley need to survive in the Second Division.

And the Burnley-born striker, linking up at last with his hometown club, has no intentions of letting him down.

"I am hoping I can do the business for Burnley starting tomorrow at Bristol," said Payton, whose swap deal, sending Paul Barnes from Turf Moor to Huddersfield, was finally completed last night.

"People can say what they want and I know the club is in a bit of a worrying position. But they beat the top of the league last week and there are the players here to get out of trouble. I am sure we can do it, even though you have to have a little bit of fear about the position."

Payton has always hoped he might one day wear the shirt of the team he has always supported.

Now the dream has come true for a player with a proven pedigree of scoring goals wherever he has played.

"I wouldn't say it has been an ambition of mine because I have played for some big clubs, such as Celtic and Middlesbrough," he said.

"But it is something I have thought about. It came right out of the blue but I am happy it has all been sorted out.

"Now I just want to settle down, meet the rest of the lads and get to know them and, hopefully, score goals."

Payton's inclusion could well be the only change to the Burnley side which beat promotion favourites Watford last Saturday.

Waddle is expected to partner him in attack but he has also included former non-League striker Kevin Henderson in the squad as cover. Following the departure of Barnes to Huddersfield and with Andy Cooke starting a two-match suspension the manager's only available experienced striker is his new signing. Michael Williams (ankle) and Lee Howey (pelvic strain) are both still ruled out. But Paul Weller, now fit again after knee surgery, is included in the squad.

Bristol Rovers have won their last four matches but Waddle knows his team are capable of beating anyone on their day, as they showed last Saturday.

"They are all funny games in this division but we had a good win at Watford and if we can play like that again we'll be all right," he said.

Burnley are expected to choose from: Beresford, Brass, Moore, Harrison, Winstanley, Smith, Little, Matthew, Ford, Waddle, Cooke, Blatherwick, Hoyland, Robertson, Payton, Weller, Henderson.

Bristol Rovers are on something of a high at the moment and have climbed into third place in the Second Division table, as they lead the chase for play-off places behind Watford and Bristol City.

They will be without right back David Pritchard tomorrow, as he is starting a two-match suspension.

His replacement is expected to be Jason Perry, who has just completed a five-match ban.

Perry is a Welsh international with one cap to his name.

Their squad is: Collett, Perry, White, Foster, Lockwood, Cureton, Holloway, Penrice, Ramasut, Beadle, Hayles, Bennett, Hayfield, Basford, Smith.
