FOOTWEAR firm Lambert Howarth has reported better-than-expected sales over Christmas.

In a trading statement it said it expected to report a significant increase in profit before tax for 1997 against market expectations.

The firm, which last year announced the closure of its Burnley footwear factory, is due to report preliminary results in March.
