ALAN WHALLEY'S WORLD

ANN Gray describes herself as looking like "a cross between Norah Batty and little Orphan Annie" - or at least that was the impression which sprang to mind when she spotted herself in a school line-up taken 35 years ago.

But that flashback photo featuring Grange Park Secondary Technical School revived many happy memories.

Ann - maiden name Campbell - now lives in Warrington. My page, showing that 1963 classroom picture, was passed on by her parents.

She was surprised and delighted. "I'm the one (front row, second right). I think Mum must have had 'high' hopes for me . . . because the skirt I'm wearing was still a mile too long, even in the fifth year."

The 'where are they now?' question is often posed when nostalgia-laden photos are published. But few ever reply. Ann, from Calderfield Close, Stockton Heath, is one of the exceptions.

On leaving school she took up secretarial work with Pilkingtons, remaining there for 16 years. She next took over a pub with her hubby but quickly tired of that and went to work for a St Helens doctor.

Next job stop, the BICC in Warrington - later Prescot and Helsby. And Ann, who has a 16-year-old student son Robin, is still going great guns, having been offered a permanent contract with Cable & Wireless in Warrington.

"It would be great to hear how other former pupils are getting along," adds Ann, who lists the following as being on the 1963 picture: Susan Jones, Kathleen Appleton, Lynda Hunt, Margaret Hardman, Graham Lynch, Pamela Devlin, Sheila Harrison, Mike Tabern, Christine Holden , Angela Bonney, Carol Mercer, John Constantine, Jean Hill, Ann Phillips, Marie Cowley, Marion Lomax, Valerie and Vivienne Tench, Bernie Alcock, Geoff Dobson, Michael Stubbs, Margaret Brennan, Barry (?) Rigby and Pat Brown.
