Aldwinians 26 West Park 18 WEST Park's fallibility away from home which virtually cost them promotion last season re-emerged on Saturday.

Aldwinians boosted by the return of former Fylde and Wakefield star Mike Jackson, Graham Sampson from Australia and the return to fitness of the Kenrick brothers to their pack, inflicted on Park their first league defeat of the season.

This coincided with main rivals Chester's impressive win at Penrith. Park have visits to Chester and Penrith to come in the near future.

Aldwinians' game plan was soon clear as their pack sought to deny West Park the ball they sorely needed by fair means or otherwise.

The number of penalties and free-kicks which punctuated the game throughout was demonstrated by Park's scoring being limited to six successful penalty kicks from full-back Chris Glynn, three in each half and awarded in the main for killing the ball or offside at the ruck. However the Park pack looked decidedly jaded after their recent efforts and as a result little good ball got to the backs.

Aldwinians' excellent tackling and greater forward control brought them a try in each half from scrum-half Tim Butterworth and in the closing minutes by left-wing Andy Smale converted by Mike Jackson who also kicked four penalties.

Next Saturday Park entertain Aspull in another league game, the away game earlier in the season resulting in an 11-11 draw. Kick off is 2.30pm.

Other results: West Park 2nd 34 Aldwinians 2nd 36, Aldwinians 3rd 12 West Park 3rd 25, West Park 4th 55 Aldwinians 4th 7.
