NEW striker Andy Payton will make his home debut for Burnley against Southend in Saturday's vital relegation struggle, with player-manager Chris Waddle expected to have just two major injury concerns.

Midfielder Michael Williams (ankle injury) and defender Lee Howey, who has a pelvic strain, have both missed Burnley's last two matches.

But Waddle has plenty of cover available at the back with Mark Winstanley now back in the first team frame and Jamie Hoyland and Steve Blatherwick both among the substitutes for the games against Watford and Bristol Rovers.

He also has options in midfield, Australian Mark Robertson making a second-half appearance as substitute at Bristol last Saturday. The main question surrounds who partners Payton in attack, with Andy Cooke completing his two-match ban. Waddle himself has played up front in the last two games and would seem favourite to continue in that role.

Meanwhile, Saturday's Turf Moor visitors have signed Leeds defender Richard Jobson on a month's loan after he has battled his way back to fitness.

Jobson, 34, has not played a first team game for Leeds since damaging knee ligaments in October, 1996, but has proved his fitness in the reserves.

The former Hull City and Watford defender cost Leeds £800,000 from Oldham in October, 1995, and is available on a free transfer.

Southend manager Alvin Martin persuaded Jobson to join his club on loan in preference to Wigan who were also interested and he will link up at Southend with another veteran, goalkeeper Neville Southall, who has extended his loan from Everton.
