A TRAGEDY-hit group of amateur actors are looking for a home - and hope Citizen readers can give their cloud a silver lining.

The Oswaldtwistle Players, who were due to perform Charley's Aunt in March, were rocked by the death of their chairman Doris Snape in January.

As producer, Doris, 71, of Lyndon Court, Great Harwood, had led the group through the rehearsals for the show and the Players immediately postponed the performances as a mark of respect.

But the show's venue, Accrington Town Hall, is booked up for the rest of the year and cannot accommodate the rescheduled production.

Players' spokeswoman Gail Highton said: "We were all very shocked by Doris' death and are still coming to terms with recent events.

"We still don't have a new producer, but we would like to perform Charley's Aunt some time in the future. The only problem is that the venue is not available on any other date and we need a decent-sized room."

The Players are hoping local colleges and organisations may be able to help for a date in mid-May. Until then, rehearsals are continuing.

Anyone who has bought tickets for Charley's Aunt can either write for a refund, enclosing the tickets, to Oswaldtwistle Players, c/o 36 Westwood Street, Accrington, BB5 4BW, or use them for the October production of Much Ado About Nothing.

Anyone who would like to offer the Players a venue for Charley's Aunt should contact the Citizen newsdesk on 01254 671241.
