AN adventurous dad-of-two won't be enjoying a romantic meal with his wife this Valentine's Day - he'll be leaping off a 160 feet building!

Daring Philip Wilcock from Preston will jump to the task of raising charity cash with colleagues in a sponsored 'leap of love'.

Ten workers from British Gas in Manchester will wear blindfolds and abseil off the ICL building in Gorton with other volunteers in aid of the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB).

Press officer Philip, of Chorley Road, Walton-le-Dale, said: "Funnily enough we're not sure if it'll be more or less frightening to be wearing a blindfold.

"We knew the RNIB often organise blindfold sports events for sighted people, so we thought it might be a novel idea to do a blindfold abseil."

The last time Philip abseiled down a rockface was when he was a youngster and he reckons this might just be a bit different.

He said: "It'll be a bit more scary than when I was a boy. I had my arm twisted a bit by my mates to do it but now I can't wait."

Jonathan Tyrer, RNIB Corporate Fund-raising Manager for the North, said Philip and the others taking part deserved a big pat on the back.

He added: "We're very grateful to British Gas for their support. We hope all the participants will have fun at the same time as raising valuable funds."

Anyone else who would like to do the sponsored jump should call Jonathan on (0345) 023 073.
