THERE'S just no stopping Higher Fold Village Inn.

The unbeaten Division One leaders in the Leigh & District Amateur Football League go from strength to strength.

On Saturday they extended their lead at the top with a comprehensive 3-0 win against third-placed Church Inn, the goals from Michael Blackley and Geoff Myers 2.

Royal Oak, however, stay in touch with their 8-1 thrashing of Rileys. Andy Whittle scored the one, Paul Cottrell 4, Kevin Mullins 2, Steve Parry and Damien Cartledge scored the eight.

In-form Queens suffered a setback with a 2-1 home defeat to Leigh Phoenix A. All the goals came after the break, Wayne Pitchford getting a double for the visitors, Liam Connelly on target for the homesters.

Union Arms stay top of Division Two after a 4-3 win against Leigh Arms with Steve Poole 2, Craig Carter, Colin Nemis on top target.

But Leigh Arms are fast becoming the most improved team in the league and, after leading on three occasions, will consider themselves unlucky to lose. Tony Gregory 2 and an og made up their three.

Strikes from Tony Beardsworth, Dave Bowers 2 and Steve Anderton 2 helped Ellesmere overcome stiff opposition from visitors Britannia, the score 5-3. Dave Shacklady, Leon Peters and Phil Wilkinson (og) made up the three.

Ross's Wanderers romped in 5-0 against Sir Charles Napier, Tommy Hollywood, Paul McCormack, Neil Mason 2 and Jack Smith on target.

Leigh Victoria's Steve Hibbert made it four goals in two games with another double in the 5-0 win against Leigh Phoenix B, Neil Atherton, Paul Banks and Andy Mazey also scoring.

Another 5-0 romp saw Corbett Brewery beat New Inn Rangers.

On top target were Jason Caldwell, who grabbed four, and Shane Brennan.
