Blackburn Rovers Reserves 1 Sheffield Wednesday Reserves 0

A BRILLIANT goal from Anders Andersson strengthened Blackburn Rovers Reserves' hopes of claiming the Pontin's League Premier Division title.

But it was out of keeping with a disappointing game which could easily have gone the other way.

More than 2,000 fans saw disjointed Rovers struggle in the first half when Alan Fettis made a fine double save to keep dominant Wednesday at bay.

There was little cohesion in the Rovers ranks but they snatched what proved to be the winner two minutes before the interval.

Andersson, who earlier had a header cleared off the line, took a pass from David Worrell, zipped past three defenders and coolly placed his shot past the Wednesday keeper.

That prompted Rovers to improve. James Beattie, who had a lively game, saw a shot saved and he linked up well with substitute James Thomas in the second half. Their combination led to the best moment of the half when Matt Clarke pulled off a great save from Thomas.

Rovers were the better side after the break, with Marlon Broomes having a header cleared, but Wednesday should have equalised when both Richie Humphreys and Christian Mayrleb missed sitters in front of the sound Fettis.

Rovers: Fettis, Worrell, Coughlan, Broomes, Valery, Andersson, Bohinen, Henchoz, Staton, Beattie, Dahlin (sub Thomas). Subs not used: Reed, Fitzpatrick.
