POPULAR Indie band Syndicate and Burnley FC are the latest signatories to the Burnley Declaration against Racism.

Lead singer Damian Manville and drummer Chris Precious will be representing the band at the official signing ceremony.

It marks the conclusion of Burnley's European Year Against Racism campaign at Burnley Town Hall next Thursday.

Damian said: "We very much wanted to support this Burnley declaration."

Other local VIPs attending the event include Chris Brass from Burnley FC.

The Mayor Coun Mrs Enid Tate will open the ceremony, an opportunity for local organisations, schools and companies to demonstrate their commitment to racial tolerance.

Choirs from Rosehill and Stoneyholme primary schools will entertain guests, along with pupils from St John the Baptist, Padiham, who will perform a special play, based on their work on racism.

Council Equal Opportunities Committee chairman, Wendy Croft, said: "I am heartened by the positive response of local people to the campaign.

"Each of us has a part to play to ensure that Burnley is a fair and just place in which to live and work."
