RED-HEAD Tricia Wadman is preparing to make the ultimate sacrifice to raise cash for a charity close to her heart.

After learning her older brother Clive was suffering from cancer Tricia came up with the idea of having her curly locks shaved off.

The 31-year-old sheltered accommodation assistant has teamed up with Cameo Cutting Shop in Darwen to collect sponsors for the feat.

The big day is scheduled for April 2 and all the proceeds will go to the Darwen branch of MacMillan Cancer Relief.

The fund-raising team hopes 36-year-old Clive from Railway Road, Darwen, will be given permission from medics at the Royal Preston Hospital to attend the stunt.

Despite undergoing two kidney transplants Clive was able to work as a printer at Nelson-based Coloroll Wallcoverings until being diagnosed with cancer 12 months ago.

"Clive has lost his hair and he is really proud that I am prepared to be the same as him," said Tricia of Walmsley Street, Darwen.

"I'm really close to my brother and wanted to do something extra special.

"I never really have my hair cut and some people think I am mad but at least I know it will grow back eventually and people will benefit from what I have done."

Salon owner Heather Ashurst, who is also on the charity's committee, is urging businesses and individuals to support the sponsored event.

She said: "The sky is the limit when it comes to our fund-raising target.

"We have already handed out 27 sponsor forms and hope a lot more people will come forward and help."

Forms are available from the Railway Road salon or by ringing 701417.
