WYRE MP Hilton Dawson could set up special "surgeries" for young people.

The MP, whose regular surgeries to hear constituents' problems are attended almost exclusively by adults, is looking at ways to reach out to the younger members of his constituency.

He said: "It's something that we have already talked about and something I'm keen to do.

"Young people have very clear and strong ideas about what they want.

"I visited one primary school and an eight-year-old asked me about Labour's policy on recycling."

A group of children from Over Wyre visited the House of Commons and presented the MP with a question to put to Premier Tony Blair during his question time.

"Their question was about better public transport in rural areas to improve their social lives.

"Unfortunately, it was question 19 on the list and we only ever get up to about number ten."

The MP is set to discuss two different approaches with Wyre council leader Richard Anyon and youth worker Mick Piella.

The first is to tour schools, answering questions and giving out advice.

The second plan would involve visiting youth clubs to find out what concerns young people have today.

Mr Dawson has already faced questions from youngsters on topics such as jobs, the environment, in-line skating and the use of school fields out of school hours.

He said: "They are the voters of tomorrow and it's important to listen to them."
