REBECCA White of Blackburn Harriers made nonsense of pre-match predictions with explosive sprinting in her debut on the indoor athletics international scene at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena.

Running in the Great Britain colours she sped to a 7.56 seconds win in the first of the two 60m dashes. German favourite, A Reucher, was second in 7.58.

The second race went to Reucher in 7.53 with Rebecca just a whisker behind, repeating her 7.56. Adding the times pushed the Blackburn girl into second spot by just 100th of a second, little more than the thickness of a vest.

This was her last indoor venture before she makes final preparations for what should be a splendid summer on the outdoor track.

Overall match result: 1 Germany 223 points, 2 Great Britain 181, 3 France 165.
