GARTH Edwards, of Blackburn Civic Society, may be a very knowledgeable person, but if he believes the Mother and Child sculpture on Blackburn Boulevard is modelled on Mrs Thatcher (LET, February 25), he is clearly wrong.

Here are several pieces of evidence against it being that woman:

Mouth shut;

Child in hand - she always had nannies;

Bag a shoulder not handbag;

Child is being allowed to pick up a toy - real Mrs T would have rushed on to privatise another utility before wasting time on a child;

Statue not made of gold;

Statue not made of iron;

Lady is turning round, but Mrs T never turned round;.

And finally ... absence of bird droppings.

I rest my case; eighth factor is clincher!
